Middle school students chipped away Oct. 22 during the Charles County Public Schools (CCPS) golf tournament held at White Plains Golf Course. Five of the seven CCPS middle schools sent teams to compete in the tournament, known as the Superintendent’s Cup.
Piccowaxen Middle School placed first with a score of 67; Milton M. Somers Middle School came in second with a score of 76; scoring 81 to take third place was Matthew Henson Middle School; Theodore G. Davis Middle School’s team came in fourth with 83 strokes and Benjamin Stoddert placed fifth with a score of 122.
The golf tournament is one of a handful of athletic events middle school students can compete in during the school year. In November, an archery tournament is held, a volleyball tournament takes place in January, a basketball tournament is held in March and a track and field competition takes place in April.
