The voting window for the 2023-24 Student Member of the Board (SMOB) is open through May 19 with students in Grades 6 through 12 able to cast one vote via an online form during their English class.  

Jamiyah Bonds, a junior at St. Charles High School, and Treasure Perkins, a Thomas Stone High School sophomore, are running for the SMOB position. The Student Member of the Board provides the student voice on the Board and the position includes voting rights. The SMOB is a full member of the Board and can vote on most matters except for the following: legal appeals; personnel matters; collective bargaining; the hiring, salary and evaluation of the superintendent; operating and capital budgets; and school openings, closings and boundaries.

A recording of an April 26 debate between Bonds and Perkins is available to view on the Charles County Association of Student Councils (CCASC) website, which is shared with all middle and high school students and teachers. To watch the candidate debate, visit the CCPS YouTube page. The debate can also be viewed on the school system’s Vimeo channel. The debate can be viewed 7 p.m. through May 19. The debate airs every day of the week expect for Wednesdays and on Tuesday, May 19.

All students in Grades 6 through 12 will be able to cast a vote to help elect the next Student Member to the Board of Education in Charles County. The election window is through May 19. Elections will take place in all English classes.
